What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession focused on reducing pain and maximising an individual’s functional potential, particularly when this has been threatened by injury, disease or deconditioning. At the Portland Physiotherapy Clinic, our experienced Physiotherapists carefully listen to each patient’s individual history, so that they might establish a firm diagnosis. Your therapist will then embark on a tailored and goal orientated treatment program to reduce discomfort, restore function and where possible, minimise the chances of any such symptoms returning. We pride ourselves on taking a collaborative approach with our patients to establish that path of treatment that will serve you most effectively, but will seek to refer on to an appropriate healthcare professional or specialist if we cannot help. All our Physiotherapists are University trained, are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and adhere to all relevant professional standards.
What do I need to bring?
Be prepared to provide your previous medical or surgical history. If you have them and if they are relevant bring scan/MRI reports, and list of medication. You may wish to bring shorts and t-shirt.
How do I make an appointment?
You can get in touch by phone (01342 327246) or use the form under the contact page.
Do I have to be referred by a doctor?
No, physiotherapists can assess and treat without referral by a doctor. However most health insurers require a doctors referral before they authorise cover of fees, some only require a phone call.
